The Song of Joan of Arc By Christine de Pisan Stanza 51
It is true that some still resisted
in their folly accomplishing little.
For all that offer opposition must
go before God for their aquittal.
It is all pointless and whether they
wish to surrender or not or how strong
they may be it is all the same result.
None can withstand the Maid's assault.
Original in French
Voir est qu'aucuns de leur folie
Cuident resister, mais peu vault,
Car au derrain, qui contralie,
A Dieu compere le deffault.
C'est pour neant. Rendre leur fault,
Vueillent ou non. N'y a si forte
Résistance qui à l'assault
De la Pucelle ne soit morte,1
