Joan of Arc - Maid of Heaven

The Song of Joan of Arc
By Christine de Pisan
Stanza 50

And the little Maid right beside him,
he returns through his country.
Not a village, town or castle able
or wanting to resist his decree.
Whether they love or hate him
or be dismayed or assured they
all throw open their gates so in awe
of Him that they act in such a way.

Original in French

Avecques lui la Pucellette.
En retournant par son païs,
Cité ne chastel ne villete
Ne remaint. Amez ou haÿs
Qu'il soit, ou soient esbaïs
Ou asseurez, les habitans
Se rendent. Pou sont envahis,
Tant sont sa puissance doubtans!1
